In our media research activities we started out with printed media. Three editions of Pozitiv newspaper were published. These were followed by series of monthly published Pozitiv light "toilet" magazine. In year 2001 we upgraded our journalist approach with internet workshop and in november 2001 the first edition of Pozitiv digital internet newspaper was published.
The main goal we set was to research the possibilities of presenting the newspaper with the new media, internet. Through our practical work different questions arose, that were pointing out the differences between the same media in different forms - printed newspaper and digital newspaper. One of these is surely the time and space independence of the internet elements. Digital newspaper is reachable any time from any place on earth that has a computer connected with the world wide web. In our case that ment, that with less expanses we can reach the wider circle of audience. And that aslo effected our vsebino of newspaper, because we had to acomodate it to the different potential readers. Also, the vsebina of the digital newspaper can be presented trough moving picture and sound and with e-mail it is opening the possibilities of communication on new levels. The third important difference we noticed was the information structure. The printed media has a fixed linear structure of providing the information, but the information structure of digital newspaper has a different organization that provides the selective approach to the user.
All of these differences are constructing parts of the internet as the media tool itself that directs the production of the newspaper in a totaly different way than printed version. In both cases the editorial and journalist team is needed, but for handling the material in final phase of production totaly new and different knowledge of working with computer and internet is needed. The factor that caught our creative power the most was the posibility of usage of different multimedia elements and creation of certain interactivity. For this purpose we used the technology we have in our students home and we presented some parts of its production with video, sound and picture.
The main lead for our construction of individual editions was always the event connected with students home and life of the students within. But certanly in this final number the main theme is the conclusion of the project and its evaluation. For that purpose we decided to translate all text into english language, which was not the case in previous editions.
The first edition we could call "the breaking of the ice". The team of students was formed and they decided what they want do do. Who will write the articles, who will shoot the photos and who will work with computers. Of course these tasks were flexible and everybody was allowed to do what he likes according to his interests and knowledge in different fields of practice. Also new members of the team were always wellcome. The main goals were creativity and fun through learning.
When creating the second edition we reflected on our achievements with first one and quiestioned us how can we improve it. Even that it was accepted very well by the studentsi, we were forced by our own ideas and conclusions to take it to the next level. We structured the information a bit differently and we included some video clips and also the first animated cartoon was made.
The third edition was made on the "open doors day" of the students home. The idea was to show the real space of the home and to integrate it somehow into the digital newspaper. With digital camera we shot the photographs of the entrance hall of the A building of the home and we created a 360 degree panoramic view. This was used as a base on which we put the links that are connected with certain events and themes. User can approach these themes by clicking certain objects on the picture, and some of them have the same function in reality (food menu - "jedilnik", light switches on the wall, ...). This way we managed to offer to the potential students and their parrents the experience of visiting the students home through digital information.
The fourth number is the conclusion of the project and reflection on our work, so we decided to publish it in slovenian aln aslo "international" english language. On left you can find links to all of the previous editions, but you can also find the multimedia "highlights" of those in this final edition.
Enjoy.
